Yet another. Gawd this is addicting. Needle felted giraffe that stands 17 inches tall. Felting is just like sculpting, but with wool. The wool is poked over and over again with the felting needle which has small barbs on it. So basically I am just matting the wool into whatever shape I want. Kind of like dreadlocks taken to the extreme.
wow... I've seen dolls made like this. How'd you learn to do it? Even though you describe it, I'm not sure I understand.
He's a very serious looking giraffe. He would be a responsible playmate (My little sister's favorite toy while growing up was a stuffed giraffe. He now has a button eye, and his neck is floppy, but he was a good friend when she was small).

wow, hes beautiful, i love how he looks! <3 (why its a he, i dont know... )
though i do hate dreadlocks... havent yet met a person with them who knows how to keep clean.
i'd love to see the "steps" you go through to make one of these guys..
I only made him a he, because he is 17 inches tall, and at 1:12 scale that would make him about 17 feet tall. Males can grow up to 19 feet when full grown, but females normally don't grow to more than 16 feet tops. More than you ever wanted to know about giraffes I'm sure! lol Dreadlocks are a lot different than needle felting in that they don't really get dirty in the same way.
Pretty much the same way I learn to do everything. I get the basic concept, then just play around with it until I feel like I understand the medium. It takes a long time but once it gets started, it's not that hard to do. Just very repetitive. Constantly poking the needle into the wool until it firms up nicely.
I had a giraffe when I was a kid too. He was about 5 foot tall, and I named him "handsome". I'd even sleep with him in my bed! He finally gave up the ghost though, and wouldn't stand anymore. Man I haven't thought of that in years!
